Classic Arnside.

Start. Arnside.

Route. Arnside - Ash Meadow - Grubbins Wood - New Barns - Frith Wood - Blackstone Point - White Creek - Arnside Point - Park Point - Far Arnside - Heathwaite - Arnside Knott Wood - Knott Lane - Red Hills Road - Arnside.

Notes. An impromptu little ramble this morning, I'd expected to wake to rain and grey skies, imagine my surprise, then there was the jobs I'd promised Sue I'd do at home, bugger them, she was at work and I was on my way to the seaside. This is a walk we first did with the kids many moons ago, it takes in a little slice of everything Arnside and Silverdale have to offer, nothings changed over the proceeding years except maybe the paths, a little wider and a little deeper, they certainly see more footfall these days.

I left Arnside heading south, a good path under foot, too soon the path gave way to estuary mud, trying my damnedest to keep on solid ground I wandered on. Round New Barns then Blackstone Point, across the shingle bank at White Creek before crossing the sands to reach Park Point, here I ascended to the cliff top path. Along the edge of Arnside Park I wandered, above the rift where limestone gives way to the shifting sands of Morecambe Bay. Staggering vistas across the bay soon gave way to holiday homes and the white washed buildings of Far Arnside. Via field paths I ascended Heathwaite to join the main Bridleway through Arnside Park, this good track carried me to Knott Lane which I descended to access Red Hills Road, from Red Hills Road a number of narrow ginnels lead down to the estuary, I opted for the one I knew avoided the muddy stretch of foreshore and conveniently passed the Beach Walk Café.
